Stroller cup holder
The UPPAbaby Cup Holder was redesigned to address long standing usability issues with the previous model, which relied on a friction fit clip that was difficult to attach, hard to remove, and prone to breakage. The goal of the project was to create a more secure and intuitive attachment system while refreshing the overall aesthetic. Working closely with the project engineer, I helped rethink both the mounting interface and the cup holder body to deliver a more durable and user friendly solution.
Intuitive Snap-On Attachment
A new clamshell style clip was developed to replace the previous friction fit system. Designed to work across the Vista, Cruz, and Minu frames, the clip allows the cup holder to snap securely onto the stroller with one hand while maintaining a stable connection during use.
A single release button enables quick removal when needed, and the attachment geometry was designed so the cup holder can remain on the stroller while folding. The result is a mounting system that is faster, easier, and far more durable for everyday use.
Built for Durability
Improving durability required rethinking the material construction. The previous Tritan body created the signature smoky translucency of the product but introduced weak points at the clip interface.
To solve this, the redesign incorporates a Nylon 6 structural backbone that provides strength and impact resistance, paired with a Tritan outer body that maintains the brand’s visual language. A gloss chamfer was added around the perimeter to visually soften the thicker wall sections required to sandwich the two materials together.
Flexible inserts accommodate a range of cup sizes, while a drainable, dishwasher friendly design ensures the cup holder performs reliably in everyday use.
